The difference
between trimming trees and maintaining
them is in the reasons for the work being
done. Tree trimming is usually only addressing
the size and shape of the tree. By only
cutting limbs to reduce a tree's size,
the health problems are left in the tree
to cause further damage and eventually
be a cause for the premature death of the
tree. Don’t have trees trimmed. Have
your trees pruned.
Tree pruning is done by primarily removing
diseased, dead, broken and rubbing limbs
from a tree. These are the limbs, usually
within the canopy of the tree and not at
the outer edge of the tree canopy, that
are presenting current and future health
problems for a tree. The overall size of
the tree, and the desired size of the tree,
should be addressed after the health problems
have been taken care of in the work. The
best investment in your trees, and your
landscape, is to maintain the health of
the plants and not just the size of them.
